As so many people had no idea what these are, when I brought up making them, I decided to add the recipe here.  It is definitely a French Canadian thang…enjoy! And SUPER easy!

Preheat oven to 350.

3 cups brown sugar

5 tablespoons flour

1/8 teaspoon salt

3 eggs, well beaten

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup cream plus 1 cup low fat milk

OR

1 1/2 cup whole milk

1 large pie shell or 30 tart shells

I mix the dry ingredients first, then throw in the wet.  I usually mix everything in a large measuring cup to make pouring the filling into the shells, if I am making tarts, tons easier.  This is a VERY runny mixture, so do not over fill!  It makes a nasty mess if it spills IN the oven….trust me!

It usually takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to bake, depending on if you use frozen shells or not.  They puff up huge, but settle quickly, and to be sure they are done, the toothpick trick works best!  Traditionally, this dessert is served warm with vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream, but cool and on their own is fine too!  Very rich and very delish!
